After falling in overtime against the Kings on Monday night, the New York Rangers bounced back with a come-from-behind win against the strong Boston Bruins. David Quinn squad was down 2 goals entering the third but persevered with a great effort. The Blueshirts scored two third period goals to force overtime, which included Filip Chytil tying the game late, and Tony DeAngelo scoring the game-winner in the seventh round of the shootout.

Zuccarello and Zibanejad recorded a point each in the tilt to continue their offensive wizardry. The combo has been the most lethal duo in the league since the beginning of January. Mika has the most points in the league in that span, and Zucc has the most assists.

“We just looked forward and kind of put the 2nd period behind us. I thought we did a good job with that and just going out and playing,” said Zibanejad.

The first period was  evenly played, with the shots, possession time, and hits being nearly even. Although, the Blueshirts broke the ice in the final three minutes. Mika Zibanejad registered his 22nd goal of the season to continue his hot streak. Mats Zuccarello, a mere 5’ 7”, was able to fight was way to the puck and he sent a great centering feed to Mika. With plenty of momentum behind him, Zibanejad sent a blistering  slap shot from the high slot and wired the puck past Jaroslav Halak.

The second period couldn’t have  been worse for the boy’s in blue as they were dominated by Boston allowing three consecutive goals. It took the Bruins a while to commence the onslaught, but at the 10:37 mark, the fourth line connected with a greasy goal. Matt Grzelcyk ripped a shot at the point which took a heavy rebound off Georgiev and Danton Heinen tapped in a puck from inside the crease to tie the game. A little over a minute later,  David Pastrnak netted a beauty of a goal. David Krejci picked up the apple on the goal after feeding a driving Pastrnak. With only 5 minutes remaining in the frame, Boston was able to score their third goal of the second period with Patrice Bergeron picking up his 19th goal of the season. The goal was yet another deflection in front of Alexander Georgiev. After leading 1-0, the shook up Rangers needed to have a special third period.

The Rangers had a strong star tot the third period and were rewarded at the 9:24 mark with Kevin Hayes receiving a fortuitous bounce off a Jimmy Vesey shot. The Rangers kept up the pressure in the offensive zone and were eventually rewarded with a big power play opportunity. Pavel Buchnevich shot from just inside the blue line wound up slipping under Jaroslav Halak and clanked off of the post on the way out. Luckily for New York,  Filip Chytil was waiting right on the doorstep and shoveled home the game-tying goal with a little under eight minutes remaining in regulation. Of course, the young Czech brought out his signature snipe celly.

After a crazy high paced overtime filled with odd man rushes and incredible saves from Georgiev and Halak, the game went onto the shootout. Both Alexandar Georgiev and Jaroslav Halak were were great for their respective teams and only allowed a total of three goals throughout seven. Mika Zibanejad scored in the third round with a fantastic backhand roof sbot but Brad Marchand scored to keep the game alive. Tony DeAngelo put the Rangers back up by a goal in the seventh round after going high glove off the bar and in the net. Aleksandar Georgiev made a huge glove save on David Krejci to close out the game. The young netminder was ecstatic and jumped on the ice following the great comeback victory.

Following tonight’s exciting win over the Bruins, the Rangers will have an off day tomorrow before returning to action on Friday night against the Carolina Hurricanes at the Garden.

Andrew Chodes Back in 2012, I started to become a big fan of the rangers. Ever since Adam Henrique scored the goal we know and love to forget, I became a die-hard fanatic. I’ve witnessed some unbelievable moments along with some heartbreaking ones throughout the years, but my love for the Blueshirts will never die. Recently, I have partaken in some classes at Hofstra University to hopefully propel me to become a sports journalist or broadcaster when I become older. With being so dedicated to the Rangers, joining BSN is a big step in my dream of working in this field. LGR
