Broadway is about to welcome in two new hopeful stars.
Lias Andersson and Filip Chytil, first round selections in the 2017 NHL Draft, are set to make their NHL debuts tonight at Madison Square Garden, as their New York Rangers take on the Washington Capitals (7:30 PM, NBCSN).
The Rangers (33-34-8) have been mostly pleased with the glimpses of their possible future, as they’ve played competitively since selling at the trade deadline. They posted a dominant effort on Saturday night, as they topped the Buffalo Sabres 5-1 at MSG. Mika Zibanejad continued his hot streak, scoring at least one goal for the fifth consecutive game. Zibanejad helped Chris Kreider extend his own points streak to five games to score the first goal of the night. Another point streak continued in the form of Neal Pionk’s first NHL goal, extending it to seven games, while Alexander Georgiev made 43 saves in victory.

Meanwhile, the Capitals (44-24-7) continue to lead the Metropolitan Division, bolstering their case with a 6-4 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. Tom Wilson and Evgeny Kuznetsov had two goals each, while Nicklas Backstrom assisted on four scores in the home win at Capital One Arena.
This will be the first of a late season back-to-back between the Rangers and Capitals, with a rematch scheduled for Wednesday night at Washington. This pair will conclude their season set, with the teams splitting the prior couple. The Rangers won 1-0 in Washington on December 27, as Ondrej Pavelec and Phillip Grubauer engaged in a backup goalie war. While Pavelec made 30 saves compared to Grubauer’s 37, he stymied Washington in a shootout portion, stopping TJ Oshie and Alex Ovechkin. Zibanejad and Mats Zuccarello took care of the rest, scoring for the Rangers.
